How To Save Your Summer Body During Winter (Ladies, It Includes Shopping)

by Sportitude

Nothing kills a workout routine like the alarm going off during a cold winter morning. With daylight saving coming to an end those 6am starts getting cooler by the day, staying motivated becomes increasingly difficult. So how to ensure you don’t undo all your hard work during those cooler months.

1.Don’t break your routine. While it may be tempting to have one cheat day – before you know it that one sleep in will turn into two and well… we know how this story ends. Fight the urge to make excuses during winter and continue business as usual. If you exercised 4 times a week during summer, there is no reason to cut back during winter.

2. But do mix it up and try a new workout or class. If sweating it out at Bikram Yoga and stepping out into the cold is not quite your thing, why not try a cycle class or boxing instead. Stick to your timetable but mix up the exercise. Committing to a new fitness class could be the best motivation you need.

3. Treat yourself to new gym clothes. Nothing will motivate you to jump out of bed like new threads that make you look the part even when you feel far from a fitness devotee. More importantly, winter friendly workout clothes will ensure you can brave the winter chill and continue business as usual.

4. Buddy up. Find a fitness partner and commit to a workout plan. You will be less likely to hit the snooze button and ditch the morning run when you are being held accountable by your exercise buddy. We all know fitness can become competitive after all, and you wouldn't want to be the one who quit first.

5. Set realistic goals for those mornings you are really struggling. If you feel that a 45-minute session is not possible, workout for 15 minutes to stick to a routine. The act of walking into the gym or stepping out for a short run with help you stay on track and break your routine altogether.
