3 Things You Need To Know Before Your First CrossFit Class

by Sportitude

Nothing evokes fear in new fitness devotees like CrossFit. The all-intensive body workout involves everything from kettlebells and pull-ups to rowing and some serious weight lifting. Helping create lean and mean machines, the fitness craze has helped sculpt the bodies of celebrities and runway models around the world. So here is what you need to know before your first class (Because we want to ensure you actually go back for round 2).

Confusing terminology: If you think crunches and push-ups will be the most intimidating part of your first class, think again. With acronyms and terminology such as Amraps, EMOMs, WODs, OLYs and THE GIRLS, it may be worthwhile doing some homework before your first class.

Athletes of all levels: Like many gym classes, CrossFit allows you to work at your own level. You will be pleasantly surprised to find people of all shapes, sizes and fitness levels. Sure there will be some competition amongst the hardcore devotees but there will also be newcomers like yourself who will be happy to just survive the first class.

So this means leave your ego at the door. The workout of the day in each CrossFit class calls for participants to set up weights. The goal here is to do a high intensity but low weight workout. This will enable you to focus on your technique and avoid unnecessary injury. Just remember that there is plenty of time to increase the weights after you have mastered all the movements.
