Breakfast Foods Which Also Belong On Your Face

by Sportitude

When it comes to health and wellness, we all know that food plays a crucial part of the equation. What we put in is what we get out both at the gym and in the kitchen. The same philosophy applies to our beauty routines. We know all the expensive elixirs in the world won’t make a difference if we don’t eat for healthy skin also. But did you know that some foods are as good on your skin as they are in your gut?

That’s right ladies, turns out you may not need to spend thousands of dollars at the beauty counter for that flawless complexion. The answer may be sitting in your kitchen. In fact, your next breakfast may be as good on your face as it is in your tummy…

Yoghurt: We have long known the benefits of yoghurt for our gut health, but turns out the yummy snack is as good for our skin as it is for our inner health. Packed full of calcium, zinc, enzymes and good bacteria, yoghurt is known for helping strengthen and create glowing skin. We know that Cleopatra herself used to add milk or yoghurt to her baths to help create her flawless skin, but we’re down for a more practical approach. Apply to your face for 30 minutes as an alternative to your regular mask to reveal glowing skin.

Honey: Known for it’s antibacterial and antibiotic properties, honey is also packed full of antioxidants, natural enzymes and a wide range of nutrients which make the perfect beauty elixir for some of the skin's most common ailments. Given its healing properties, honey is an effective treatment for inflammation, redness, burns, wounds and dry skin. The antibacterial and soothing properties of honey also make it the perfect remedy for sensitive, acne affected skin.

Egg whites: When it comes to hair and face masks, the beauty counter can offer a plethora of expensive creams and miracle workers, however, the answer to healthier skin and hair may be sitting in your fridge. Eggs are packed full of Vitamin B and D, selenium, magnesium, calcium, omega-3 fatty acids and many other miracle vitamins and nutrients you are likely to find in your favourite over the counter creams. Whip up some egg whites and apply to skin and hair for half an hour to reveal glowing, healthy skin.

Avocado: While smashed avocado on toast is all the rage, avocado on your face is just as tempting. Avocados present one of the most potent doses of antioxidant carotenoids like alpha and beta-carotene for the skin. These free radical quenching compounds will protect your skin from environmental damage and will slow the signs of ageing. Avocados also full of Vitamin C and E, two of the most crucial and sought after skin Vitamins. Vitamin C will boost the elasticity and collagen in your skin while vitamin E works to free radicals from oxidising fats in your skin cells which promote ageing.

Green tea: No healthy breakfast is complete without an antioxidant packed green tea, however instead of throwing your tea bags away, place them on your face. Green tea not only prevents the body’s oxidant radicals from damaging cells and speeding up the breakdown of collagen when applied to the face it helps combat puffiness and reduce redness like no other miracle cream you have tried before.
