5 Shortcuts To Becoming A Morning Person

by Sportitude

Ever wondered why your best friend manages to workout, enjoy a nice lengthy breakfast, indulge in a long shower and heck maybe even read the paper before work while you can barely manage to put yourself together? Or why that same best friend goes to bed at 9pm while you are just settling into your evening work session. The answer is simple. Our internal body clocks differ making some of us night owls. So how to make those early mornings manageable and having you feeling human well before midday?

1. Fill up with protein in the morning. Your metabolism and blood sugar levels are at their lowest when you wake up so skipping breakfast and opting for a coffee on the run will only make matters worse. Try keeping hard-boiled eggs in the fridge for those mornings you are feeling extra time poor.

2. Jump out of bed, quite literally. Even a 10-minute spot of exercise can help boost energy levels. Short bursts of high-intensity exercise are proven to elevate the body’s adrenaline levels for several hours.

3.Forget the snooze button. While having an extra 10-15 minutes sleep may be tempting, it will have a negative effect on your energy levels. Snoozing plays havoc with your sleep cycle, leaving you feeling exhausted no matter how many times you hit the snooze button.

4.Opt for a cold shower. If a rude wake-up call is not enough to tempt you, consider the added benefits. Cold showers are proven to burn more calories.

5. Treat yourself. Use the extra time you gained by waking up early to do something you love. Scroll through Daily Mail and catch up on all the celebrity gossip. We won’t judge.
