Hi guys, Josh here from Sportitude with another shoe review.

Today we’re going to be doing the Asics DynaFlyte 2, a great new shoe from Asics. They released the DynaFlyte first addition 12 months ago and had great success with that shoe.

It’s a lightweight, tempo style shoe that doesn’t compromise on cushioning and support. A fantastic little number. We’re going to touch on some features of the new version here in comparison to the old one.

I usually like to start from the ground and work my way up, but with the new DynaFlyte 2 I’m going to start from the top and work my way down.

First things first. The newest addition in the DynaFlyte family is the Adapt Mesh upper. The Adapt Mesh upper is a stronger construction, provides improved fit and also creates less bundling through the forefoot on toe off.

The few of you that have been lucky enough to use the first release of the DynaFlyte, myself included, loved the shoe. One thing I didn’t like about the shoe is the little bit of buckling through the forefoot and they improved that with the fit in the new DynaFlyte 2. In terms of the actual structure and features of the shoe, it’s pretty much the same underneath the foot.

They’ve gone with their FlyteFoam midsole that a lot of the Asics family have, with FlyteFoam being 33% lighter than the previous FluidRide technology they were using.

One thing they have added in this shoe is a SpEVA 45 lasting system. The last is essentially the part of the shoe which sits between the midsole and sockliner inside. If you pull the sockliner back you should be able to see SpEVA lasting underneath the sockliner.

What is SpEVA? SpEVA is a more responsive layer underneath the sockliner. SpEVA has been used in Asics shoes for 15 years now, give or take.

What they’ve done with the SpEVA is layer it on top of the FlyteFoam because FlyteFoam is a really plush, soft technology but they wanted this shoe to be more responsive. The SpEVA layer on top gives your foot more response as you go through the toe off phase.

Asics stick with their Gel cushioning. There’s a little Gel pocket at the rear of the shoe. They’ve got the Guidance Line system which is essentially splitting the outsole configuration through the flex groove to make a nice flexible shoe.

It’s on a neutral platform so there’s no medial assistance through the midsole underneath the foot. However, just going back to the Adapt Mesh. On this medial side you can actually see some under layers which Asics have strategically placed through that medial configuration. The reason they’ve done that is when your foot does go through midstance to toe off it may ever so slightly pronate in the shoe. It will give the foot a little bit more support with the underlays.

Touching on the men’s and women’s subtle features. Men’s will come in about 270 grams for a size 9. For ladies we're looking about 235 grams for a size 8.

The other difference is both shoes are on a 8mm heel to toe gradient. The men’s is looking at a 20mm to 12mm stack height - 20mm in the heel, 12mm in the forefoot.

The women’s is slightly different, 19mm in the heel and 11mm in the forefoot. Not a lot of brands adjust their men’s and women’s models. Asics do a good job there.

Talking about the fit of the shoe. For men’s we’re looking at a D width and for ladies a B width. As you can see we are looking at a gender neutral design. Men’s and women’s look exactly the same, there’s just the different sizing and width options.

DynaFlyte, here it is again. A great little shoe. Love it.
