Sugar… oh honey honey…

When it comes to health and wellness, fat has long been the bad guy, or so we liked to believe. After all, the belief that taking a bite into our favorite cake was as bad for us as eating a cheeseburger was too much to bare (just say it isn’t so). But with a plethora of studies linking sugar to obesity, type 2 diabetes, premature ageing, inflammation, kidney stones, tooth decay, depression as well as various cancers, the dangers associated with the white stuff have been hard to ignore.

However with so much information at our disposal, the question as to why so many of us still overdosing on the highly addictive, calorie dense and nutrient-empty additive, still remains. Despite all the warnings, the average person consumes 22 teaspoons of sugar a day. That is three times over the recommended daily limit. What's more, that equates to an added 355 calories a day, which measures up to an entire days worth of over eating by the end of each week.

The secret may lie in the cold hard fact that sugar is a serious chameleon. When it comes down to it, sugar is not just sugar honey. This highly addictive additive found in most of our processed foods and drinks remains camouflaged under 46 different names. If you are really serious about watching your intake, it's time to get educated, to learn the names and to start checking all the labels and ingredients found in your favourite foods.
