by Sportitude

The Basic Balance offers a pandora's box of nutritious recipes, exercise tips and travel inspiration in the most relatable of ways. This is because website founders Lottie and Adelaide know a thing or two about working hard to strike a healthy balance between work/study and social commitments, one in which health is never compromised. The naturopathy and nutrition students not only share what they have learnt during their studies but live the advice they give to ensure you too can strive to do the same. Here they road test and share their recipe for Golden Milk.

Everything You Need To Know About ‘Golden Milk’

Golden Milk seems to be all the rage at the moment, but is the latest health trend really worth trying? We’ve decided to get to the bottom of this craze and put Golden Milk to the test to see if it's everything it's lived up to be.

Turmeric has been used traditionally in natural medicine for thousands of years. One of its primary active components is curcumin, commonly known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Turmeric is often used in meals such as curries and is often hard to include in daily diets due to its acquired taste.

Some of turmeric's other benefits include:

  • Improved immunity
  • Anti-nausea treatment
  • Increased liver health
  • Increased metabolism
  • Anti-depressant properties
  • Possible prevention of some forms of cancer

Golden milk is the perfect way to include turmeric in your daily diet. I enjoy mine in the morning but many people enjoy it before bed as it helps with digestion.

Golden Milk Ingredients

  • 1 cup of milk (or coconut milk)
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp of honey
  • dash of black pepper

Method

Whisk all the ingredients together until well combined. Heat mixture in a small saucepan for 5 mins or until hot, not boiling. Drink immediately and enjoy!

Tip: By adding a dash of black pepper to your golden milk you increase the body's absorption of turmeric by 2000%
